Grace Lee

Who I Am:
I was born in Chicago, IL (in the city) and graduated from Palatine high School in 1998. From there, I graduated from the University of Michigan with a BA in Education in 2002 and then later received my Master’s in Social Work in 2007. I currently work as a fourth grade teacher in the North Shore area in IL. I grew up in a strong Christian home and later joined HMCC of Ann Arbor when I was freshman. I moved to Chicago and am part of the Evanston/Chicago church now. It has been exciting to see God work at both campuses and remind me of my undergraduate years as well!
Interests
I love the Chicago Cubs! (a mild Bulls and Bears fan), trying out new recipes, baking, doing anything crafty, trying new restaurants all over Chicago, movies, biking, running, reading the news and relaxing with the company of friends
Weird habits
I check my alarm clock 3 times before I go to bed (I have had too many incidents where I set it incorrectly)
Passions
- Children! I love learning about how to be a better teacher, their development, and just getting to interact with them 5 days a week!
- The local church and seeing others loving, protecting and serving it
- Learning something new - either a new craft, food, culture, nature, anything!
- Family and friends (especially when I get to see them face to face and not over the phone
Goals
- Visit Italy, Make a quilt
- Love God with my whole heart, mind, and strength each day. Espcially as I teach in the classroom
- One day, I would love to be a part of starting/planning/support a school, refuge, something! that provides for families comprehensively (maybe even overseas if God willing!)
Why I write:
Writing forces (in a good way) me to reflect and understand what I am thinking and feeling.
Favorite Reads:
- The Night by Elie Wiesel - I read this in High School with my English class. It was the first book I had to read from school that made me contemplate the human heart and soul.
- The biography of David Livingstone and Hudson Taylor - The lives of these two missionaries challenge me to pray with faith and boldness and to live with God’s glory in mind.
- The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein - How could I be an elementary school teacher and not love children books? This is one I read to my class at the end of the each year.
Favorite Movies:
- Roman Holiday - it’s Audrey Hepburn.
- Usual Suspects - it gives me chills each time. Although I tend to accidentally call it Unusual Suspects instead.
- Joy Luck Club - ok, maybe not a favorite, but a memorable mother-daughter bonding moment in my life.
